Valentine’s Day Treats Made with Real Ingredients

By Luisa Szakacs, CNC – Marpé Nutrition

Valentine’s Day is right around the corner, and everywhere you look there is candy. Store shelves are overflowing with ultra processed treats, artificial colors, and sugar overload. While these may look festive, they often leave us feeling tired, bloated, and craving more.

But here’s the good news. We can do better.

You do not have to give up desserts or special celebrations to support your health. When you use real, nourishing ingredients like coconut, maple syrup, almond flour, cacao, dark chocolate, and monkfruit, you can create delicious treats that satisfy without the sugar crash.

This week on WFMZ-TV, we shared some of our favorite Valentine-inspired desserts made with whole-food ingredients. These recipes are simple, beautiful, and perfect for sharing with the people you love.

Here is what we brought to the show.

Healthy Macaroons

Made with coconut, coconut sugar, cacao powder, dark chocolate, and vanilla. These are rich, chocolatey, and naturally sweet without refined sugar.

Dark Chocolate Avocado Mousse

Avocados, maple syrup, cacao powder, and a touch of heavy cream create a silky, nourishing dessert packed with healthy fats.

Valentine Cranberry Almond Biscotti

Almond flour, (or Einkorn flour) unsweetened cranberries, eggs, and turbinado sugar make a festive and crunchy treat that pairs perfectly with tea or coffee.

Chocolate Cupcakes with SunButter Icing

Coconut flour, eggs, and monkfruit create a soft, chocolate cupcake, topped with a creamy sunflower seed butter icing that is both indulgent and nourishing.

SunButter Icing

Cream cheese, heavy cream, sunflower seed butter, and monkfruit make a smooth frosting without refined sugar.

Lemon Berry Silk Cups

Heavy cream, fresh lemon zest, maple syrup, and fresh berries layered into a beautiful, elegant dessert. This is the recipe we demonstrated on air because it is so simple, pretty, and easy to make.

We layered the lemon cream with fresh berries and topped it with mint. It looked beautiful and tasted even better.

There is truly no need for sugar highs this weekend. Using real ingredients, you really can make your cake and love it too.
